Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior IT Support Data Center Technician to join Microsoft's team in Sydney. In this role, you will be responsible for staging, setting up, deploying, troubleshooting, and decommissioning hardware across data center facilities. Your duties will also include providing support for secure access workstations, laptops, servers, and conference room A/V systems, maintaining hardware inventories, and ensuring devices are updated with the latest operating systems. Key Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with colleagues across various data center locations.
  • Ensure all IT hardware complies with security standards and remains in optimal condition.
  • Handle confidential BIOS configuration changes securely.
  • Manage inventory by ordering, receiving, assigning, reassigning, and retiring devices as appropriate.
  • Assist users with routine repair tasks and escalate complex issues effectively.
  • Process Return Merchandise Authorizations (RMA) for equipment damaged within 30 days of receipt.
  • Provide IT support including power cycling, storage media handling, cable installations, hardware rack and stack assembly, testing, and resolving user account problems following standard data center procedures.
  • Support deployment of physical infrastructure such as servers, network devices, SANs, Windows Server OS support, component replacements, and hardware troubleshooting as needed.
  • Uphold and embody Microsoft’s culture and values throughout all activities.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, TAFE certification, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience supporting IT hardware and network equipment including routers, switches, AV equipment, operating systems, inventory management, cabling, hardware rack installations, testing, and troubleshooting within a data center environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Technical college degree, TAFE diploma, or equivalent industry experience in Computer Science or Telecommunications.
  • Certifications such as CompTIA, Microsoft, or Network certifications.
  • Knowledge and experience in executing safety programs and compliance policies.
  • No shift work required; standard working hours are 8 AM to 5 PM, with occasional overtime if needed.

Background and Security Checks

  • Must meet Microsoft, customer, and Australian Government security screening requirements including:
  • Passing Microsoft Cloud background check on hiring and biennially thereafter.
  • Verification of Australian citizenship, including passport verification.
  • Possibility of NV1/2 or PV clearance assessments through Australian Government Security Vetting Agency.
