Mechanical Maintenance Technician

Job Overview

The role involves performing maintenance, repairs, and servicing on various mechanical machinery and equipment to maintain optimal operation and minimize production downtime for power generation units and associated plants.

Key Responsibilities

• Effectively repair and maintain a broad range of mechanical systems and equipment within the power plant.
• Execute preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance tasks independently or with minimal supervision, including being available for on-call duties, to promptly restore mechanical systems' function.
• Support Technician Engineers or independently handle assigned duties by understanding procedures, associated risks, and selecting appropriate tools and equipment to safely and efficiently complete tasks.
• Conduct maintenance activities in compliance with Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) standards and operational requirements to minimize workplace incidents.
• Identify patterns of frequent breakdowns and develop, then apply solutions to prevent recurrence.
• Supervise contracted personnel performing maintenance work according to agreed schedules and plans.
• Recognize and manage exposure to challenging physical and sensory work conditions including high pressure steam, electrical hazards, noise, fumes, heat, humidity, dust, working at heights, chemical splashes, and exposure to acids, oils, and other liquids to ensure safety.
• Follow instructions and guidance as provided verbally or in writing by supervisors.

Qualifications and Experience

• Possess a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a Craft/Trade certificate or an equivalent credential.
• Diploma holders should have at least 5 years of mechanical maintenance experience within a thermal power plant environment.
• Craft/Trade certificate holders are expected to have a minimum of 8 years of experience in mechanical maintenance.
• Hands-on experience with GE Frame 9E/9FA Gas Turbines, steam turbines, waste heat boilers, thermal desalination units, and balance of plant equipment overhauls is required.

Skills and Competencies

• Proficient with all mechanical maintenance tools and techniques.
• Computer literacy is essential, with knowledge of PC usage.
• Familiarity with operating and maintaining Gas Turbines, Steam Turbines, Waste Heat Boilers, Compressors, Pumps, Cooling Towers, and Reverse Osmosis plants.
• Ability to speak, read, and write English proficiently.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to assertiveness in work situations.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team, including shift work schedules.
