About the Role
The Director of Safety at Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) is responsible for leading and directing the development, planning, management, and auditing of EGA's Safety Management Systems across all sites locally and globally. The primary goal is to ensure compliance with legislation and international standards to achieve EGA's vision of zero harm.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement EGA’s Safety and Governance strategy aligned with the overall ESG & Sustainability strategy, corporate objectives, and values.
- Provide subject matter expertise and strategic counsel to EGA leadership to support functional and business goals.
- Lead, motivate and manage the safety team, setting SMART KPIs to measure departmental and individual performance.
- Oversee functional budget preparation and monitor financial performance against budget to identify cost efficiencies.
- Create and enforce company-wide safety policies, processes, and procedures, ensuring their effectiveness and continuous communication within the organization.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive safety governance framework, ensuring safety operations comply with procedural and legislative requirements.
- Lead safety system audits, reviews, updates, and ensure alignment with evolving legislation and internal directives.
- Manage day-to-day safety operations across all sites, including halting unsafe activities and promoting injury prevention.
- Conduct incident investigations, analyze trends, provide corrective plans, and oversee safety training initiatives.
- Implement and manage international safety programs, ensuring consistent training, reporting, and compliance across global operations.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders adhering to high business ethics.
- Lead change management by continuously improving functional systems and adapting to global standards.
- Ensure timely preparation of accurate functional reports meeting EGA's quality standards.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in safety management, HSSE, or related field.
- Professional certification or diploma in Safety Management.
- Lead Auditor certification.
- Minimum 12 years experience in industrial safety, including at least 4 years in a safety management role.
- Expertise in risk assessment and management, administrative policy development, budgeting processes, and project controls.
- Strong conceptual planning, conflict resolution, leadership, multitasking, and organizational abilities.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and training delivery skills.
- Proficiency with time reporting systems and attention to detail.
