Position Overview
The Senior Customs Broker will be responsible for managing the clearance process of freight documentation through customs authorities. This role involves guiding customers on import/export regulations in both origin and destination countries while upholding compliance and providing superior service.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage customs clearance documentation for customers efficiently.
- Liaise daily with customs authorities to ensure smooth operations.
- Provide expert advice on customs compliance and resolve related issues.
- Review and evaluate policies, procedures, and internal controls related to customs operations.
- Ensure that all customers' shipments comply with relevant regulations.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements, risk mitigation, and IT solutions to enhance compliance and control.
- Collaborate within the Expeditors network regionally to exchange best practices and maintain uniform compliance standards.
- Support key account customers by addressing their customs needs comprehensively.
- Stay current with evolving customs requirements and implement necessary regulatory changes.
- Ensure accurate processing and collection of Duty and VAT.
- Follow up and resolve any customs queries or refund issues promptly.
- Maintain and update departmental standard operating procedures (DLSOPs), ensuring effective implementation.
- Support Sales and Account Management teams with cost optimization solutions.
- Conduct regular audits of customs entries on a daily and weekly basis.
- Deliver training to new and existing staff on customs regulations and departmental updates.
- Adhere to possible shift patterns as required for the role.
Qualifications and Experience
- 1 to 3 years of experience in customs brokerage or relevant education credentials.
- In-depth understanding of Irish customs procedures and systems.
- Strong interpersonal abilities to communicate effectively with customers and internal teams at all levels.
- Proficiency in Word, Excel, Windows, email, and other PC-based software.
- Fluency in English is essential.
Reporting Structure
This position reports to the Customs Brokerage Lead Agent, Supervisor, and Manager.
