Job Overview
The role of Ocean Pricing Assistant Manager involves managing and maintaining excellent relationships with service providers including local carriers and co-loaders, ensuring up-to-date and accurate local port, transportation, storage, and demurrage charges. This position requires active communication with sales and customer service teams to align profit margins, produce timely quotes, and perform market analysis for competitive pricing and carrier optimisation.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Establish and sustain strong connections with all service providers.
- Continuously update and monitor local port charges, storage fees, demurrages, and transportation costs to ensure accuracy.
- Request, compare, and validate rates from local carriers and corporate offices against contract agreements.
- Collaborate closely with sales and customer service teams to determine appropriate profit margins and maintain productive interdepartmental relations.
- Prepare and send pricing quotes within 24 hours, issuing interim updates if delays occur.
- Utilize the company’s Quoting Database or approved formats to produce quotes following corporate guidelines.
- Maintain confidentiality of all quotes and pricing information.
- Collect and analyze feedback on quotes for market insights and update quote logs accordingly; document reasons for any rejections.
- Compile and review weekly reports from the Quoting Database to identify the most efficient carriers and ports.
- Regularly inform team members about changes in General Rate Increases (GRI), Peak Season Surcharges (PSS), and rate fluctuations.
- Ensure all job executions comply fully with company policies and standards.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- 2 to 3 years’ experience in a relevant industry-specific role.
- Comprehensive knowledge of market and ocean freight products.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills, with ability to listen, understand, and convey information clearly to achieve positive outcomes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word for documentation and reporting.
