About the Team
The Crypto Product and Engineering team designs, develops, and maintains Scotiabank's cryptographic products, services, and technology platforms. The team works collaboratively across global product and engineering groups to advance and implement strategic cryptographic capabilities enterprise-wide.
Role Overview
As a Senior Crypto Engineer, you will play a pivotal role within the Crypto Engineering pillar, leading the design and modernization of the crypto platform. This includes automating processes and scaling security features within foundational cryptographic security products across the organization. Collaboration with business units, IT support, and Information Security & Control teams is essential. You will also act as a recognized subject matter expert in cryptography.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead multiple innovative initiatives to enhance the crypto security platform, resolving complex technical issues and ensuring system security and resilience.
- Design and develop crypto security platform solutions adhering to bank standards, policies, and risk appetite to fulfill business requirements.
- Collaborate closely with Product and TechOps engineers for seamless integration of Crypto Engineering architectures and functionalities.
- Take personal ownership of projects, initiatives, and daily operations, delivering results with minimal supervision.
- Contribute to a motivated, positive work environment focused on reducing organizational risks.
- Mentor engineering team members and share best practices with cross-functional engineering groups.
- Address audit, compliance, and IT risk team concerns to remediate risk incidents.
- Drive continuous improvements in team processes and procedures, mindful of the bank's risk culture and appetite.
Required Skills and Experience
- Minimum 5 years of practical technical experience implementing and deploying complex or large-scale applications, systems, or platforms within enterprise and financial settings.
- Proficient in programming languages such as Python, Java, Bash, and PowerShell.
- Familiarity with software development lifecycle tools, including JIRA, Bitbucket (Git), and Confluence.
- Experience deploying platform services in cloud environments like Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Microsoft Azure.
- Ability to apply security principles to cryptographic platforms, complying with IT standards, methodologies, key management regulations, and audit requirements.
- Hands-on knowledge of crypto engineering practices, key management, and general information security domains.
- Experience with business analysis tools like PowerBI and Excel.
- Exceptional communication, presentation, negotiation, and interpersonal skills with capability to present summarised information to senior management in English; proficiency in Spanish is a strong plus.
- Proactive attitude with continuous learning of emerging cryptographic security trends and technologies.
Preferred Qualifications
- An undergraduate degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related technical field is advantageous.
- Security certifications and accreditations are beneficial.
- Knowledge of cloud security (GCP, Azure) and container technologies such as Kubernetes is a plus.
