Team & Role Overview
The Data and Analytics team at Datacom is a forward-thinking collective passionate about data innovation. Embedded within the Professional Services division, this dynamic group crafts advanced platforms and solutions at the forefront of technology.
As a Senior Consultant, you will spearhead technical delivery of comprehensive data platform and business intelligence solutions. This role involves designing, executing, and owning robust Data Platform and Insight projects. You will closely collaborate with client stakeholders, as well as internal Principal Consultants, Practice Leads, and Project Managers. Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills are essential due to the client-facing nature of the role.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage with business users to identify consulting opportunities and gather requirements through effective workshop facilitation.
- Contribute to architecture, design, and delivery of modern data and insight platforms, leveraging the latest trends in data-driven decision support.
- Offer expert advice on data management and integration strategies to clients.
- Develop data models, including relational and dimensional designs, tailored across diverse data domains and industries.
- Design and deploy AI-based solutions for data migration, modeling, application modernization, and data warehouse migrations.
- Conduct performance tuning and optimization for new or existing data platforms and insights solutions.
- Manage software development lifecycles using source code management tools with modern AI-driven modernization practices.
- Create customized self-service BI solutions utilizing Power BI, with comprehensive knowledge of deployment options.
- Produce detailed technical documentation, conduct end-user training, and facilitate knowledge transfer to clients and internal teams.
Essential Skills & Expertise
- Exceptional consultation and stakeholder relationship skills with excellent verbal and written communication.
- Proven history of architecting and building modern data platforms, including Enterprise Data Warehouse migrations.
- Advanced practical expertise with Snowflake technologies (data flows, pipelines, Cortex/Coco) or Databricks (workflow, lakehouse flows, Autoloader).
- Experience with data engineering tools such as dbt, Azure/Fabric Data Factory, Coalesce, Fivetran, or Matillion.
- Proficient Python programming skills.
- Strong proficiency in cloud platforms, notably Azure and AWS.
- Expertise in data platform design, implementation, optimization, configuration, performance, and cost control (e.g., Fabric, Snowflake).
- Advanced skills in Power BI, Power Query, SQL, and DAX semantic data modeling.
- Solid understanding and practical use of DevOps practices including CI/CD pipelines, Git integration, and deployment automation.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- Certifications such as SnowPro, Coalesce, or Microsoft Azure/Fabric Data Engineer are required.
- At least 7 years of experience in Enterprise Data Warehouse design and implementation.
- A minimum of 7 years' experience in ETL architecture and design.
- 7+ years’ expertise in data modeling using Star and Snowflake schemas.
- At least 5 years of experience in semantic layer development.
- Minimum 5 years working with Power BI.

Additional Information
This is a permanent, full-time role based in a hybrid setup with office presence required three days per week. Security clearance is preferable, and candidates must be New Zealand citizens or residents.
