Role Overview
As part of our ongoing AI advancement, we are seeking a Senior/Tech Lead AI Engineer to join our Digital Engineering AI team. This role offers the chance to work on cutting-edge projects, collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop and implement advanced AI models addressing complex business challenges. We are urgently hiring multiple experienced professionals passionate about AI development to elevate our presence within the New Zealand and Australian markets and beyond.
Key Responsibilities and Expectations
- Lead and contribute to the design, development, and deployment of AI-powered software solutions.
- Implement generative AI applications on platforms like Azure OpenAI, Microsoft Foundry, or Amazon Bedrock.
- Manage AI context integration with relevant data, including retrieval methods, embeddings, structured outputs, and tool interactions.
- Ensure robustness by diagnosing failures, managing API constraints, and verifying output quality and workflow reliability.
- Communicate effectively with customers to comprehend their needs, explain technical concepts, and translate requirements into functional solutions.
Required Qualifications
- A strong foundation in software engineering with over 7 years of professional development experience, mainly in Python and/or TypeScript.
- Proven experience delivering at least one generative AI product in a production environment using recognized platforms.
- Practical expertise in AI model management and data/tool integration.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting and validating AI outputs and related workflows.
- Strong interpersonal skills to liaise with client stakeholders and technical teams.
Preferred Skills and Experiences
- Background in professional services or client-facing roles.
- Familiarity with AI orchestration frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph, LlamaIndex, or Microsoft Agent Framework.
- Knowledge of advanced retrieval processes, including hybrid search and graph-based methods, and understanding of vector store trade-offs.
- Experience with AI-assisted coding, workspace automation, and outcome verification techniques.
- Understanding of Model Context Protocol (MCP) or similar tools involving authentication, permissions, and handling untrusted content.
- Expertise in multimodal document and image understanding with models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, etc., including cross-modal embeddings.
- Experience fine-tuning or custom hosting models on platforms like Microsoft Foundry or Amazon SageMaker when relevant.
