Role Overview
We seek an experienced cybersecurity expert eager to transform complex security challenges into clear, actionable solutions. As a Senior Cybersecurity Consultant, you will lead significant projects with major New Zealand organisations, working independently while establishing trust quickly. Your strategic insights and technical expertise will help enhance client cybersecurity postures aligned with their business goals, ultimately making them more resilient.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage cybersecurity consulting projects from initiation to completion, ensuring delivery within scope, on schedule, and budget.
- Craft and present customised cybersecurity strategies and roadmaps that reflect organisational risk tolerance and maturity levels.
- Design and deploy practical governance frameworks that support long-term organisational security.
- Conduct comprehensive cybersecurity audits and evaluations across various sectors.
- Assess and guide management of organisational and technological risks, prioritising critical issues.
- Develop and test security initiatives, such as system assurance, third-party/vendor risk management, incident response, and security awareness training.
- Formulate pragmatic policies and compliance programmes that are effectively adopted.
- Confidently engage with senior executives, technical teams, and stakeholders through workshops, detailed reports, and discussions.
- Mentor colleagues by sharing knowledge and providing hands-on guidance to facilitate growth.
Required Skills and Experience
- Broad expertise in cybersecurity covering governance, risk management, technology, and operations.
- Proven consulting background, capable of independently handling competing demands and quickly earning client trust.
- Thorough knowledge of global security frameworks such as NIST CSFv2, NIST SP800-53, ISO 27001/27002/27005, IEC 62443, PCI-DSS, SOC2 Type I/II, and ASD Essential Eight.
- Strong understanding of local New Zealand and Australian standards including NZ PSR, NCSC Minimum Cyber Security Standards, HISO 10029/HISF, NZ ISM, AU ISM, and NZ Privacy Act 2020.
- Practical experience with PCI-DSS encompassing scoping, SAQ determination, and managing issuer/processor/acquirer relationships.
- Ability to explain the relationship between security controls, threats, vulnerabilities, and business risk clearly.

- Excellent analytical skills for gathering information, verifying evidence, and analyzing systems.
- Strong self-management skills enabling efficient handling of multiple projects.
- Capability to devise solutions that are effective, practical, and sustainable regardless of organisation size or maturity.
- Solid appreciation of cybersecurity’s intersection with privacy considerations.
- Curious and proactive in staying informed about emerging threats and their implications for New Zealand organisations.
Qualifications
- Tertiary education or relevant professional experience in cybersecurity or related fields.
- Preferred certifications such as ISO 27001 Lead Implementer/Auditor, CISM, CRISC.
