About Crowne Plaza Christchurch
Located in the vibrant downtown area of Christchurch opposite Victoria Square, Crowne Plaza Christchurch offers proximity to key landmarks such as the Avon River, Town Hall, Art Gallery, Te Pae Conference Centre, and popular dining and shopping districts. The hotel's kitchen is the energetic core of operations, and we are seeking a Senior Chef de Partie to join our dedicated culinary team.
Role Overview and Duties
- Oversee daily kitchen operations ensuring food quality, consistency, and operational efficiency across all hotel food outlets and events.
- Prepare, cook, and artfully present dishes maintaining uniformity in quality, portion sizes, and visual appeal.
- Assist with preparations for breakfast buffets, special functions, and event catering.
- Foster a constructive team environment by collaborating with colleagues, supporting training and coaching of junior chefs and kitchen stewards, and encouraging professionalism and mutual respect.
- Participate in menu innovation and refine guest experiences by contributing ideas for new dishes and specials, accommodating dietary restrictions under supervision from the sous Chef and Executive Chef.
- Manage your kitchen section during service hours ensuring smooth workflow, effective stock rotation, portion control, waste reduction and aid in inventory ordering to meet food cost objectives.
- Maintain cleanliness and safety within the kitchen by strictly adhering to HACCP standards.
Candidate Profile
- Minimum of three years relevant experience as a Chef de Partie, preferably within a hotel setting.
- Comprehensive knowledge of à la carte and banquet services using both modern and classical culinary techniques.
- Strong understanding of food safety, hygiene practices, and HACCP compliance.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities, sound reasoning, and capacity to train others.
- Highly organized with acute attention to detail; capable of prioritizing and managing time effectively amidst busy operations.
- Professional and dependable with a strong passion for hospitality, showing initiative, integrity, maturity, and eagerness for ongoing personal and professional growth.
- Willingness to work flexible shifts including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
- Basic knowledge of food and labor cost management with the drive to expand commercial insight.
- Effective communication skills for interaction with customers, team members, and external partners.
