About the Role
Auckland Council is forming a dedicated Natural Hazards and Loss Modelling programme team to enhance management of risks to its extensive $77 billion asset portfolio, driven by climate change and urban growth. This initiative aims to build a robust internal capability integrating hazard science, asset management, financial risk analysis, and spatial data, enabling more informed, evidence-based decisions on resilience and risk mitigation.
This Senior Change Manager role, situated within the Asset Management Centre of Excellence, will work closely with the Natural Hazards team and other stakeholders to design and implement change strategies that embed improved asset management systems, advance natural hazard awareness, and foster organizational resilience. The position involves collaboration at various organizational levels to identify impacts, overcome resistance, and ensure smooth adoption of new operational methods.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategize and execute effective change initiatives throughout the full lifecycle of programmes and projects.
- Support various departments in applying changes stemming from the programme’s work.
- Design and deliver training sessions to facilitate knowledge uptake and capability development.
- Evaluate organizational readiness, pinpoint potential risks and resistance to change, and recommend mitigations.
- Offer expert counsel on change management and communication strategies to executive leadership.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will possess significant change management experience preferably within large, complex, or politically nuanced organizations, ideally related to technical fields such as asset management, IT, or engineering. Key competencies include:
- Comprehensive understanding of change management techniques and methodologies.
- Deep expertise in business transformation and organizational change.
- Excellent communication skills with proven ability in developing and coordinating training programmes.
- Strong governance, reporting, and stakeholder engagement skills.

Compensation Details
The position offers a competitive salary ranging from $115,000 to $130,000 annually, plus a 3.5% KiwiSaver employer contribution.
