About the Role
As a Senior Business Analyst at the University of Waikato, you will guide complex digital and technology initiatives from initial discovery to implementation, ensuring alignment with the university's strategic priorities. You will collaborate closely with academic and professional leaders to develop tailored solutions that enhance teaching, research, and student experiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead comprehensive discovery and business needs analysis for significant ICT projects.
- Define and verify both functional and non-functional requirements to ensure clarity and precision.
- Contribute to the development of business cases and evaluate alternative options critically.
- Conduct workshops and engage stakeholders across academic and professional service divisions.
- Assist with solution validation, including user acceptance testing and preparation for implementation.
- Identify and propose improvements for business processes and redesign strategies.
- Support the advancement of Business Analysis practices by mentoring colleagues and promoting consistent standards within the Information Technology Services (ITS) division.
Candidate Profile
- Minimum of five years’ experience as a Business Analyst in medium to large organizations.
- Proven ability to lead analysis for complex projects with enterprise-level impact.
- Expertise in business process modeling, requirement elicitation, and validation.
- Comfortable working in both structured and Agile delivery frameworks.
- Skilled at translating technical details into clear, accessible language for business stakeholders.
- Experienced in supporting testing phases, validating solutions, and readiness for project implementation.
- Adept at navigating ambiguity, simplifying complex problems, and asking insightful questions early in the project lifecycle.

The ITS division coordinates ICT planning and delivers reliable infrastructure, enterprise systems, and exemplary consultancy and support services in support of the university’s mission. Our vision is to empower the University of Waikato through ICT engagement, enablement, innovation, and protection.
Additional Information
This permanent full-time position requires 37.5 hours per week based at the Hillcrest Campus, Hamilton. The salary is negotiable based on experience and capabilities.
