Job Overview
Join Te Kura Toi Tangata School of Education as a Lecturer in Education based in Hamilton or Tauranga, contributing significantly to initial teacher education (ITE) and broader academic activities. This position focuses on research-informed teaching, impactful scholarship, and active engagement with students and the wider community.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver research-based teaching that influences educational practice in Aotearoa New Zealand.
- Play a vital role in preparing future teachers through initial teacher education and support during their professional placements, including visits, evaluations, and mentoring.
- Contribute to graduate and postgraduate supervision and teaching, aligned with individual expertise.
- Maintain an active research program encompassing publications, collaborations, and seeking funding opportunities.
- Participate in academic administration and engage with professional, community, iwi, and outreach initiatives.
- Incorporate innovative teaching methods and culturally responsive pedagogies, delivering content online or across campuses as required.
Candidate Profile
- Holds or is near completing a PhD in a discipline relevant to education.
- Possesses a recognized teaching qualification and relevant professional experience, particularly in initial teacher education and teacher preparation.
- Holds or is willing to obtain a New Zealand practising certificate if applicable.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the New Zealand Curriculum, current school practices, and experience mentoring teacher education students in professional settings.
- Applies bicultural approaches and understands Māori and Pasifika perspectives in education.
- Exhibits strong teaching skills for undergraduate students and capability to contribute to postgraduate and Masters/PhD student supervision.
- Maintains an active or emerging research profile demonstrated through scholarly publications or presentations.
- Commits to innovative teaching techniques, including online and team teaching methods.
- Possesses excellent communication, collaboration, relationship-building, organizational, and time management abilities.
- Engages effectively with current educational theories, models, and technologies.
