Senior BIM Manager - Project

About the Role

The Senior BIM Manager plays a pivotal role in guiding the Building Information Modeling (BIM) strategy, implementation, and governance throughout an extensive design-build construction initiative. This position ensures seamless digital processes, superior BIM outputs, and collaboration across multidisciplinary teams including architects, engineers, contractors, and stakeholders. The manager champions innovation, enforces standards, and drives digital coordination, risk management, and lifecycle data oversight.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead BIM governance during design phases, ensuring models are coordinated, constructible, and information-rich per Client EIR, BEP, project BIM standards, and contract requirements.
• Support design intent and multidisciplinary coordination along the full Design-Build lifecycle from concept to handover, ensuring design information supports downstream construction planning, procurement, digital delivery, and asset transition.
• Develop, implement, and enforce BIM governance frameworks, QA/QC processes aligned with ISO 19650 and contractual obligations.
• Review and approve consultant and subcontractor BIM deliverables ensuring adherence to LOD/LOIN, BEP, MIDP/TIDP, and workflow standards.
• Oversee Common Data Environment (CDE) operation including approvals, version control, security, and data traceability; maintain compliance logs and support audits.
• Manage BIM project milestones, deliverables, and cross-disciplinary interfaces aligned with overall construction timelines; define BIM scope, performance metrics, and monitor third-party compliance.
• Identify BIM-related technical and delivery risks, coordinate mitigation strategies, and facilitate collaboration across engineering, construction, planning, and commercial teams to enable informed decisions on site execution.
• Handle contractual and commercial management of BIM scope, including clarifications, variations, claims, and change control.
• Lead procurement and supervision of external BIM and digital service vendors such as laser scanning and reality capture specialists.
• Serve as BIM liaison with clients, PMC, authorities, partners, designers, and stakeholders; conduct coordination meetings and governance workshops.
• Provide structured BIM progress updates, risk reports, and digital performance analyses to senior leadership; ensure formal documentation of BIM decisions and approvals.
• Lead BIM team by assigning roles and responsibilities, providing mentorship and technical direction to maintain consistent delivery across disciplines.
• Promote skill development within the BIM team through targeted training and feedback aligned with project digital goals.
• Evaluate and implement new digital construction technologies to enhance project value and contribute to BIM process improvements through lessons learned.

Required Knowledge and Experience

• At least 15 years of relevant experience in BIM, digital engineering, or design management on large-scale design-build or complex construction projects.
• Proven senior-level leadership in BIM governance and information management across multidisciplinary teams throughout all project phases.
• Experience managing third-party BIM service providers and enforcing BIM deliverable compliance as per contractual and project criteria.
• Deep familiarity with ISO 19650 standards including information management, CDE usage, and delivery planning (EIR, BEP, MIDP/TIDP).
• Extensive experience reviewing and auditing Lead Design Consultant BIM outputs for compliance and quality control.
• Strong project leadership skills adept at client, consultant, and stakeholder engagement on complex, high-value initiatives.
• Fluent in English, with excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

Education and Certification

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or related field; Master's degree is advantageous.
• BIM-related certifications (such as ISO 19650, BIM Management, Digital Engineering) are beneficial but not mandatory.

Technical Skills

• Expert use of BIM authoring and coordination software like Revit, Navisworks, Synchro, and ACC/BIM 360 (or equivalent).
• Comprehensive experience establishing and enforcing BIM standards, BIM Execution Plans (BEPs), and information delivery frameworks (MIDP/TIDP).
• Proficiency in managing Common Data Environments, including workflow control, approvals, versioning, and audit trails consistent with ISO 19650.
• Knowledge of BIM-enabled project applications including scheduling, cost integration, and asset data management.
• Analytical skills to identify and address BIM risks, data gaps, and coordination challenges.
• Strong leadership and communication skills facilitating coordination among engineering teams, BIM service providers, and client/PMC contacts.
