Senior Backend Engineer

About the Role

Fenris Creations, part of CCP Games, is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join their London-based team working on EVE Vanguard. The team is crafting a fresh perspective within the expansive EVE Online universe using Unreal Engine 5. This position calls for a candidate passionate about video games, eager to collaborate with both technical and non-technical team members, and dedicated to high standards and proactive support.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement highly available, secure cloud infrastructure on AWS.
• Create and maintain CI/CD pipelines for code, configuration, and infrastructure deployments.
• Enhance monitoring and alerting systems in preparation for the game's launch.
• Develop game features and internal tools primarily using Golang.
• Provide proactive support and troubleshooting for backend users.
• Identify opportunities to reduce operational costs.
• Conduct thorough code reviews maintaining high-quality standards.
• Guide team direction in areas of ownership and maintain vendor relationships.
• Communicate progress and updates clearly to stakeholders and the studio.
• Stay informed about best practices, emerging technologies, and standards.
• Participate in a compensated on-call rota to support live game operations.

Candidate Profile

• Avid gamer with enthusiasm for building video games.
• Experience building infrastructure on major cloud platforms, preferably AWS.
• Hands-on background developing significant backend features with Golang.
• Proficient in constructing CI/CD pipelines for production environments.
• Knowledgeable in architecting and supporting distributed systems in production.
• Adept at explaining complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
• Strong foundation in programming, problem-solving, networking, and software design.
