Role Overview
As a Senior Backend Engineer within the Platform Enablement team, you will enhance GitLab's deployability and operational ease across multiple environments. This position focuses on Cloud Native deployment guidance and ephemeral environments designed to validate changes early and minimize divergence between development, CI, and production stages.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop tools and workflows for both cloud-native and self-managed deployment ecosystems.
- Shape Cloud Native deployment guidance including architectural and scalability principles.
- Enhance ephemeral environments to provide more realistic production validation.
- Maintain alignment of deployment artifacts and environment contracts across application, infrastructure, and platform layers.
- Collaborate with teams on packaging, testing, delivery pipelines, and public deployment documentation.
Qualifications
- Strong experience in backend engineering, preferably with Kubernetes, distributed systems, or platform engineering.
- Background in deployment architecture, environment management, or cloud-native operational practices.
- Comfortable navigating the intersection between developer processes and production infrastructure.
- Analytical skills in system dependencies, deployment methodologies, and infrastructure abstractions.
- Collaborative mindset focused on creating robust and sustainable platform solutions.

The Deployment Environments team enables seamless deployment and validation throughout the software lifecycle by evolving GitLab’s deployment models and maintaining consistency across diverse environments, including development, CI, and multiple hosting options.
