Job description

Job Overview

As a Senior Animation Technical Artist at NetEase Games in Singapore, you will lead the technical innovation and quality enhancement of the runtime animation system for an advanced dual-perspective shooting game. Your work will significantly elevate character motion, aiming mechanics, weapon handling, and combat state fidelity to enrich the overall gameplay experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive research and development to upgrade the runtime animation system for the S18 dual-perspective shooting title, focusing on refining character movement and combat interactivity.
  • Conceptualize, validate, and implement core animation solutions including aiming mechanisms, weapon handling, procedural animations, animation graphs, and state orchestration across first-person and third-person views.
  • Formulate and enforce animation technical specifications, quality review processes, problem-solving methodologies, and acceptance criteria to ensure stable production and continuous iteration.
  • Coordinate closely with animation, programming, and game design teams to translate technical solutions into actionable development plans and facilitate seamless cross-functional execution.
  • Lead, mentor, and manage the animation technical artist team using a matrix management approach, setting technical standards, guiding complex problem resolution, fostering skill development, and prioritizing project deliverables.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Extensive experience in game animation and technical artist research & development, preferably contributing to top-tier realistic PvP shooter games.
  • Hands-on experience in runtime animation development for high-profile shooter titles, such as Call of Duty PvP or similar high-level projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of dual-perspective shooting game mechanics with proven ability to independently manage the design, R&D, and full delivery cycle of animation systems like aiming, weapon handling, procedural animation, and state orchestration.
  • Solid expertise in the entire game development lifecycle, capable of leading quality enhancements in runtime animation through problem diagnosis, technical validation, cross-team collaboration, and live operations analysis.
  • Demonstrated matrix-style technical leadership skills, including setting animation technical standards, decomposing R&D tasks, and mentoring team members to elevate capability while securing timely project completion.
  • Familiarity with the runtime animation frameworks of at least one mainstream or proprietary game engine and proficiency in resolving animation R&D challenges with DCC tools, scripting, and toolchain development; experience with multiple engines is a plus.
  • Preferred background includes experience with high-quality action game development, collaboration in international projects, and balancing quality, performance, and maintainability in complex multiplayer environments involving multiple characters and states.
  • Desirable skills include utilizing AI or agent-based approaches for animation data processing, assisting R&D, automating tools, performing problem analysis, or enhancing workflow efficiency.
