This position is hybrid based in Toronto, requiring on-site presence two days per week.

About the Team

The Android development team crafts the app that millions rely on to discover, browse, and watch content. Our focus is on delivering excellent performance, stability, accessibility, and well-executed product features. The team's scope includes core playback, content discovery, personalization, onboarding, advertising, and foundational mobile platform components enabling rapid and safe releases.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop high-quality, efficient Android applications using Kotlin and contemporary Android development practices.
• Oversee the complete lifecycle of mobile features from design through implementation, testing, deployment, monitoring, and refinement.
• Collaborate with Product Managers, Designers, Backend Engineers, Data Scientists, QA, and other stakeholders to create user-centric solutions.
• Enhance app performance metrics including stability, observability, accessibility, and developer productivity.
• Contribute to Android architecture, shared components, design systems, and reusable libraries to support scaling.
• Advance engineering practices in code quality, testing strategies, maintainability, scalability, and deployment reliability.
• Troubleshoot intricate production problems using data analysis, logs, and experimentation to inform fixes.
• Mentor team members, perform thorough code reviews, and cultivate a collaborative and inclusive engineering culture.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of professional Android application development experience.
• Deep knowledge of Android system architecture, Kotlin, and the Android SDK.
• Familiarity with modern Android architecture patterns like MVVM, MVI, or equivalents.
• Practical experience with Jetpack libraries, Kotlin Coroutines, Flow, dependency injection, and asynchronous programming models.
• Skilled in producing user-facing features emphasizing product quality, application performance, and code maintainability.
• Proven ability to lead complex projects, dissect ambiguous challenges, and execute across teams effectively.
• Strong debugging capabilities with a history of improving app stability and reliability.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills spanning engineering, product, and design functions.
• Experience mentoring engineers and guiding technical direction through documentation, architectural discussion, and code review.
• Expertise leveraging AI-driven development tools to enhance software creation, testing, debugging, and workflows.
• Good technical discernment for verifying AI-generated code outputs ensuring correctness, scalability, security, and ease of maintenance.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or relevant practical experience.

Preferred Skills

• Exposure to Jetpack Compose or experience in transitioning legacy UI to Compose.
• Background in video streaming technologies, media playback like ExoPlayer / Media3, or connected TV platforms.
• Experience with product experimentation, analytics, feature flags, and data-driven development.
• Worked on large-scale consumer applications with millions of users.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, code modularization, and mobile release methodologies.
• Knowledge of advertising technology, personalization algorithms, recommendation engines, or content discovery systems.

Compensation and Benefits

The annual salary range for this position in Toronto is CAD 137,200 to CAD 196,000, with the final offer determined based on education, skills, experience, and location.

This role is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, long-term incentive plans, and comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision care, insurance coverage, and paid time off.
