About the Role
Join the Labour Market Analysis team in the Employment, Skills, and Immigration Policy branch at the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) in Wellington. This permanent full-time position offers you the chance to help shape New Zealand's future labour market analysis and forecasting capabilities. You will lead and support complex analytical projects that use quantitative and qualitative methods to generate insights and forecasts, aiding decision-making on workforce needs and trends. The role involves close collaboration with policy professionals, analysts, and government stakeholders to transform evidence into effective policy advice and real-world workforce strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and participate in challenging analytical projects regarding labour market performance, trends, and forecasting.
- Apply economic and analytical skills to analyze workforce challenges and labour market risks and opportunities.
- Develop sophisticated analytical products and insights that underpin government decision-making.
- Engage with government teams, sectors, and regions to provide actionable workforce insights.
- Support policy development by delivering clear, practical translations of technical analyses.
Skills and Experience Required
- Demonstrated ability to employ economic reasoning and analytical thinking to interpret labour market data.
- Experience extracting meaningful conclusions from complex datasets and evidence.
- Track record of delivering intricate analytical projects and managing ambiguity effectively.
- Preferably, background in labour market economics, forecasting, workforce analysis, or statistical modelling.
- Strong communication skills to convey technical findings to diverse audiences.
- Experience contributing to policy advice, strategy formulation, or decision-making processes.
- Proven stakeholder engagement aptitude and experience collaborating across various teams and organizations.
- Ability to build relationships, influence outcomes, and work with multidisciplinary groups.

Additional Information
- Salary range: $110,098 to $138,028 NZD annually plus KiwiSaver contributions and wellness benefits.
