Job description
Position Summary
Working as a Self Checkout Attendant at Walmart Canada provides a valuable opportunity to develop skills in customer service and retail operations. This role involves assisting customers during their transactions in the self-checkout area and ensuring a positive shopping environment in a fast-paced retail setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized self-checkout area by removing any clutter, debris, foreign materials, and addressing spills promptly.
- Promote Walmart's company programs, including credit card services, product protection plans, and charitable efforts when appropriate.
- Offer friendly assistance to customers using self-checkout, monitor ongoing activities, perform necessary checks, and explain interventions clearly and reassuringly; escalate cash or technical issues to the Customer Service Manager.
- Respond to Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) alarms according to procedures and complete related documentation accurately.
- Ensure Scan & Go equipment is properly returned to its designated storage after use.
- Be flexible with work shifts, including availability for evenings, weekends, and holidays, to support store operations and customer service consistency.
Potential Challenges
- Manage high workload efficiently in a fast-paced environment, especially during overnight hours, maintaining energy and focus throughout shifts.
- Perform physical tasks such as standing for long durations, bending, and lifting weights up to 20 lbs with occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs.
- Complete repetitive tasks like stocking, zoning, and product organizing with attention to detail to maintain store standards.

Compensation
The starting minimum wage for this position is $17.75 per hour.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be 16 years of age or older.
