Role Overview

The Section Head, Geology is instrumental in advancing Maaden's Base Metals exploration initiatives by directing geological programs aimed at identifying, assessing, and advancing copper resource possibilities within the exploration portfolio. This role guarantees the production of precise geological data, trustworthy resource interpretations, and insightful exploration findings that inform strategic investment and facilitate sustainable resource development over time.

Key Responsibilities

• Translate the exploration strategy into actionable geological projects to accelerate the discovery and advancement of copper resources.
• Assess, prioritize, and mature geological exploration targets based on potential, associated risks, and business value.
• Produce high-confidence geological models that aid resource growth and facilitate project investment evaluations.
• Oversee geological fieldwork including mapping, drilling, sampling, logging, and data interpretation ensuring strong technical standards.
• Enhance geological models by integrating diverse datasets from field observations, geophysical and geochemical inputs, and drilling results.
• Raise resource confidence levels through the application of best practice geological methods and standards.
• Ensure exploration campaigns are conducted safely, efficiently, and adhered to expected timelines and budgets.
• Maximize value from exploration spending by focusing efforts on prioritized, high-value targets and work programs.
• Ensure timely and accurate communication of exploration outcomes, discoveries, and crucial geological insights.
• Maintain compliance with environmental, safety, exploration, and corporate governance standards.
• Manage geological risks through rigorous technical reviews, quality assurance, and validation of data.
• Preserve data quality and accessibility for ongoing and future resource analysis.
• Coordinate closely with exploration, resource geology, mining, technical services, and project development teams to maintain alignment.
• Provide expert geological advice supporting business and project planning, as well as portfolio evaluation.
• Present geological results and recommendations to senior leadership and technical review committees.
• Lead the geology team, fostering high performance via coaching, mentoring, and knowledge dissemination.
• Drive succession planning and enhance technical skills within the geology group.
• Promote a workplace culture that prioritizes safety, responsibility, collaboration, and continuous enhancement.

Educational and Professional Background

• Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Earth Sciences, or related disciplines is required.
• Master’s degree in Geology, Economic Geology or related fields is preferred.
• 10 to 12 years’ experience in geological exploration within mining or mineral resource development sectors.
• Specific experience in base metals exploration, especially copper projects.
• Demonstrated leadership in managing geological fieldwork, drilling programs, and resource assessments.
• Experience in developing and leading teams.
