Seaweed Farmer

Role Overview

The Seaweed Farmer is responsible for the cultivation, upkeep, monitoring, harvesting, and handling of seaweed crops to ensure healthy growth, uniform quality, and efficient farm operations. The position involves performing daily farming tasks according to set cultivation methods, operational procedures, safety protocols, and production goals.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct daily activities involving planting, cultivating, maintaining, and harvesting seaweed.
• Prepare and maintain growing areas including cultivation lines, ropes, floats, anchors, and other related equipment.
• Choose and attach healthy seaweed seedlings to farming structures.
• Regularly monitor the growth and health of seaweed and the conditions of the farm.
• Inspect the farm routinely to detect damaged, diseased, or slow-growing seaweed.
• Remove debris, damaged seaweed, marine waste, and contaminants.
• Perform cleaning, repairs, replacements, and upkeep of farming tools and equipment.
• Harvest mature seaweed following production schedules and quality benchmarks.
• Sort, clean, weigh, dry, and prepare seaweed for storage, transport, or processing.
• Handle harvested seaweed carefully to prevent damage and loss of quality.
• Keep accurate records of daily farming operations, growth measurements, harvest amounts, and production data.
• Report any equipment damage, environmental changes, pest or disease outbreaks, or abnormal growth promptly.
• Adhere to company standards and operational procedures during all farming activities.
• Properly use and maintain tools, equipment, materials, and supplies.
• Work collaboratively with supervisors and colleagues to meet daily and seasonal production targets.
• Assist with farm preparation, expansion, maintenance, and improvement projects when necessary.
• Follow all workplace safety, environmental, hygiene, and operational guidelines.
• Maintain high product quality standards, productivity, and technical discipline.
• Contribute to continuous enhancement of yield, efficiency, product quality, sustainability, and overall farm performance.

Qualifications

• Completed at least secondary school or equivalent education.
• Prior experience in seaweed farming, aquaculture, fishing, agriculture, or related marine work is beneficial.
• Basic understanding of seaweed cultivation or aquatic farming practices preferred.
• Physically capable of performing manual labor for long durations.
• Comfortable working outdoors in coastal, marine, or wet environments.
• Swimming ability and safe working practices around water are required.
• Competent in handling ropes and farming equipment safely.
• Strong observational skills with keen attention to detail.
• Ability to follow detailed instructions and standard operating procedures.
• Good interpersonal skills including teamwork, communication, and problem-solving.
• Dependable, hardworking, disciplined, and eager to learn.
• Capable of working both independently and collaboratively.
• Willingness to work shifts, including weekends, public holidays, and extended hours per operational needs.
