Beekeeper

Role Overview

The Beekeeper is entrusted with the comprehensive care and management of bee colonies to promote healthy hive growth, honey yield, pollination, and other beekeeping tasks. This position demands adherence to safety protocols, environmental standards, and regulatory compliance while handling bees, hives, and tools.

Key Duties

• Effectively oversee and sustain bee colonies and apiary locations with safety and efficiency.
• Carry out frequent inspections covering hive and brood conditions, queen vitality, honey reserves, and overall colony well-being.
• Observe bee activities and environmental factors influencing hive status.
• Detect and address illnesses, pest infestations, swarm tendencies, and queen-related problems promptly.
• Execute standard hive upkeep including feeding, requeening, splitting colonies, preventing swarming, and relocating hives as necessary.
• Harvest hive products like honey, beeswax, and propolis following prescribed procedures.
• Utilize and upkeep beekeeping instruments such as protective gear, smokers, hive components, and extractors.
• Ensure cleanliness, maintenance, and correct storage of hives, frames, and equipment.
• Document inspection outcomes, colony health data, queen dynamics, treatment applications, feeding, and production metrics accurately.
• Monitor apiary for environmental threats, unauthorized entries, pests, and predators.
• Handle bees and apparatus carefully to minimize colony stress and avoid injuries.
• Apply approved treatments and pest controls in compliance with protocols.
• Guarantee that activities conform to agricultural, environmental, animal health, and workplace safety laws.
• Consider public safety, surrounding residents, livestock, crops, and environment during all operations.
• Promptly report health hazards, equipment issues, incidents, or near misses.
• Assist in setting up apiaries, moving hives, relocating colonies, and seasonal preparations.
• Collaborate with agricultural and operations teams to support pollination tasks.
• Process and store honey and other products adhering to company standards of hygiene and quality.
• Contribute to refining practices, equipment, and management techniques.
• Maintain a tidy, organized, and secure working environment.
• Perform additional beekeeping-related tasks as required.
