Role Purpose

The Screener is entrusted with ensuring the secure and timely screening of hold baggage, adhering strictly to regulatory guidelines while identifying prohibited items and security threats. Responsibilities include operating screening machinery, recording findings, coordinating with security teams, and managing passenger interactions to uphold security standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Complete all mandated regulatory training and successfully clear associated assessments.
• Operate X-Baggage Inspection System (X-BIS) for detecting dangerous goods, prohibited items, weapons, or ammunition in checked baggage, following Avsec guidelines and SOPs.
• Conduct physical inspections and Explosive Trace Detection (ETD) tests on baggage flagged during X-ray screening.
• Maintain high Threat Image Projection (TIP) performance scores, demonstrating strong image analysis skills.
• Adhere rigorously to BCAS and DGCA aviation security directives throughout baggage screening and inspection processes.
• Document and report all operations and findings to comply with audit and inspection standards.
• Perform pre-operational checks on X-BIS, ETD, CT-EDS, and other security apparatus to verify functionality.
• Report equipment faults promptly and assist in maintaining operational logs and registers.
• Collaborate closely with CISF, airlines staff, and other stakeholders for physical baggage inspections and resolving suspicious items.
• Communicate operational updates and issues effectively to supervisory personnel.
• Manage screening tasks efficiently to meet tight deadlines without compromising thoroughness or safety.
• Exhibit professionalism and adhere to organizational behavior standards, fostering a positive team environment.

Stakeholders

Internal: CSO, Lead Avsec Audit & Compliance, Pass Section, Lead - ILHBS/Duty Manager - ILHBS/Sr Screener, Terminal Operations, IT, HR, Compliance and Regulatory Teams, and other airport departments.

External: Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Aircraft Operators, Airport Authorities, Passengers, ASG, BCAS, Local Police, Service Providers, Law Enforcement Agencies, Regulatory Bodies, and Industry Associations.

Qualifications & Experience

• Minimum education: High school diploma or equivalent; bachelor's degree or relevant qualification preferred.
• Required: TSA certification. Desirable: completion of AVSEC basic course by BCAS, standalone/inline screener certification by BCAS, DGR CAT 12 certification from a DGCA-approved center.
• NCC “C” or “B” certificate holders will be given preference.
• Freshers or candidates with 1-2 years of security screening experience, ideally in an airport environment.
• Experience in operating screening equipment and knowledge of security protocols is an advantage.

Physical and Sensory Requirements

• Visual acuity: At least 20/60 vision in both eyes without correction, or 20/20 in one eye and 20/30 in the other with glasses/contact lenses; must have adequate color perception.
• Hearing: Hearing loss less than 30 dB in each ear for frequencies below 2000 Hz.
• Speech: Ability to communicate orally clearly and effectively without significant speech impediments.
• Movement: Must be free from any mobility restrictions impacting crisis communication.
• Olfactory: Capability to detect odors as relevant to security screening.
