SAP Testing Manager

About the Role

The SAP Testing Manager will oversee all aspects of functional, automated, and performance testing within SAP transformation, implementation, upgrade, and application management projects. This leadership role is responsible for defining and executing the overall test strategy, ensuring governance and quality assurance, reporting on progress, and recommending release readiness, while also driving reusable testing capabilities in the SAP Testing Centre of Excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and own the SAP test strategy encompassing functional and non-functional testing, governance, quality gates, testing environments, test data, resource allocation, and reporting mechanisms.
• Lead testing phases including System Integration Testing (SIT), end-to-end workflows, regression tests, data migration, security assessments, User Acceptance Testing (UAT), and validations for production readiness.
• Design and implement performance testing approaches covering workload modeling, scenario design, acceptance criteria, environment requirements, and monitoring parameters.
• Manage baseline and advanced performance testing such as load, stress, volume, endurance, scalability, and batch processing for critical SAP processes and systems.
• Translate actual business volume metrics into realistic and effective performance testing scenarios considering user concurrency, transaction mixes, data volumes, response times, throughput, and batch window constraints.
• Coordinate test planning and execution collaboratively across SAP functional, technical, integration, data security, Basis, infrastructure, automation, and business units.
• Ensure requirements traceability, risk-based test coverage, establish entry and exit criteria, oversee defect management, and prepare release readiness reports.
• Analyze performance test outcomes and lead bottleneck identification efforts across SAP applications, HANA databases, integrations, infrastructure, networking, and customized developments.
• Provide executive-level summaries on test progress, defect statuses, performance risks, dependencies, prioritization of fixes, and overall go-live readiness.
• Define strategies for automation and continuous testing, integrating testing activities into Agile and DevOps pipelines.
• Create reusable SAP testing assets such as automation libraries, workload models, templates, dashboards, estimation tools, and governance frameworks for the Testing Centre of Excellence.
• Participate in proposal writing, client workshops, effort estimation, testing tool selection, and solution presentations.
• Lead, mentor, and develop test leads, automation engineers, performance testers, and test analysts.

Required Experience

• Extensive experience in enterprise application testing with leadership roles on SAP ECC or SAP S/4HANA projects.
• Hands-on involvement in managing System Integration Testing, User Acceptance Testing, regression suites, automation, and end-to-end business process testing.
• Working knowledge of performance test planning, workload modeling, scripting, execution, monitoring, and analyzing results.
• Understanding of SAP technical architecture including HANA databases, Fiori applications, integrations, background jobs, and performance considerations.
• Proficient in test governance, risk and defect management, requirements traceability, and quality gate implementations.
• Experience leading distributed teams and collaborating with senior business and technical stakeholders.
• Skilled in proposal development, effort estimation, and designing testing solutions.

Preferred Methodologies

• Familiarity with SAP Activate methodology.
• Expertise in risk-based and requirements-based testing techniques.
• Experience working in Agile, Scrum, or hybrid delivery environments.
• Knowledge of shift-left testing and continuous testing principles.
• Proficiency in business process and impact-based regression testing.
• Advanced understanding of load, stress, volume, endurance, and scalability testing.
• Experience in workload modeling and performance engineering.
• Familiarity with DevOps and CI/CD-aligned quality engineering.
• Knowledge of ISTQB testing principles.

Tool Experience

• Experience with SAP Cloud ALM or SAP Solution Manager.
• Knowledge of Tricentis Tosca testing suite.
• Familiarity with OpenText UFT, ALM, and LoadRunner tools.
• Exposure to Apache JMeter or Tricentis NeoLoad for performance testing.
• Experience with SAP HANA Cockpit and SAP monitoring utilities.
• Use of Dynatrace, AppDynamics, Grafana, or Splunk for monitoring and analysis.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Technology, or a related field is required. Certifications in ISTQB, SAP Activate, Agile methodologies, performance testing, automation tools, or project management are advantageous.
