Role Overview
As Senior Engineering Manager - Backend, you will lead teams responsible for developing scalable infrastructure and products for the Databricks platform. This includes building resource management systems that support big data and machine learning workloads in a secure, cloud-agnostic manner, constructing reliable multi-cloud distributed services and client libraries, and developing tools for managing services across environments. Additionally, you will oversee projects intersecting machine learning and distributed systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Recruit and build a high-performing engineering team.
- Mentor engineers by providing constructive feedback and fostering leadership growth.
- Maintain technical excellence through established processes such as architecture reviews and comprehensive testing.
- Collaborate with engineering and product leadership to plan and execute long-term product roadmaps.
- Facilitate cross-team coordination to overcome obstacles in multi-team initiatives.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of 12 years experience designing and operating large-scale distributed systems, including expertise in testing, monitoring, and service level agreements (SLAs).
- Demonstrated leadership experience in software engineering, including building and scaling engineering teams from inception.
- Proven track record managing skilled software engineers.
- Ability to partner with Product Management, Sales, and customers to craft innovative product features.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or a related technical discipline.
