About The Role
The Sanitation Supervisor is responsible for leading sanitation teams to ensure thorough cleaning and sanitizing of facility areas and food processing equipment in alignment with health safety standards and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). Collaborating with Operations and Quality departments, this role drives continuous improvement processes, investigates sanitation deviations, and upholds stringent sanitation standards to comply with quality, food safety, regulatory, and customer expectations. It also promotes a robust safety-first culture within the facility.
Key Responsibilities
- Promote and enforce a health and safety culture, ensuring adherence to safety, food safety, and GMP guidelines.
- Lead, mentor, and develop sanitation staff to foster responsibility, engagement, and continuous performance enhancement.
- Oversee and optimize the Master Sanitation Schedule to meet sanitation, operational, and production goals.
- Create, implement, and continuously update sanitation programs, policies, procedures, and Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs).
- Act as the sanitation authority within the facility to improve sanitation effectiveness and resource use.
- Conduct audits, inspections, and risk assessments to detect sanitation deficiencies and address them promptly with corrective measures.
- Work jointly with Operations, Maintenance, Quality, and Engineering to improve sanitation activities, ensure equipment readiness, and boost production performance.
- Manage sanitation staffing schedules, budgets, inventories, and resources for efficient operation.
- Lead training initiatives focused on the safe and effective use of sanitation chemicals, equipment, and tools.
- Support audits from internal, customer, and regulatory bodies and monitor key performance indicators to maintain compliance with food safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
Candidate Profile
- At least 5 years of experience in food plant sanitation including leadership and coaching roles.
- In-depth understanding of HACCP, GMP, food safety systems, microbiology, chemical safety, and sanitation protocols.
- Knowledge of wet and dry cleaning techniques such as Clean Out of Place (COP), Clean In Place (CIP), chemical usages, validation methods, and soil detection.
- Familiarity with health and workplace safety rules and food manufacturing compliance.
- Proven track record leading audits, identifying risks, applying corrective actions, and fostering ongoing sanitation improvements.
- Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving capabilities, organizational skills, and ability to handle priorities effectively.
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written, capable of collaborating cross-functionally.
- Experience using SAP, Microsoft Office, and POKA; knowledge of ISO standards and GFSI certifications such as BRC and SQF is advantageous.
- Bachelor’s degree in Science or related discipline preferred.
- Capability to function in a 24/7 manufacturing environment, working flexible shifts with industrial conditions, including physical inspections, use of personal protective equipment, and occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
Compensation and Schedule
- Annual salary range from $69,850 to $87,300 CAD.
- Regular working hours from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday to Friday.
- Day shift with flexibility to cover various shifts within a continuous 24/7 facility.
