Role Summary
The ALS Environmental Division at Smithfield is actively seeking a highly organized Sample Receipt Officer to manage the initial point of contact in a busy laboratory setting. The role involves receiving, sorting, and logging samples, communicating effectively with clients, and facilitating smooth distribution of samples within the lab.
Key Responsibilities
- Assigning batch numbers to incoming samples promptly.
- Alerting Senior Chemists and Section Team Leaders about urgent samples or anomalies.
- Coordinating dispatch and receipt of freight, including sample and bottle orders.
- Communicating with ALS laboratories to resolve any discrepancies in sample paperwork or condition.
- Preparing sample receipt advice documentation.
- Managing subcontracted sample dispatches and customer-requested returns.
- Updating all relevant paperwork, including customer faxes or emails after consulting Senior Chemists about specified changes.
- Photocopying original Chain of Custody documents and related information for distribution.
- Preparing samples through sub-sampling or compositing as per customer or Customer Service instructions.
- Organizing samples systematically in the cool room after logging them.
- Maintaining cleanliness and order in sample refrigeration and storage areas.
- Ensuring timely storage and disposal of samples.
- Composing clear sample numbers and flow figures.
- Keeping records of eskies dispatched and received.
- Meeting any special customer or project requirements.
- Performing additional duties related to the role when requested.
Candidate Profile and Essentials
- A sincere interest and enthusiasm for the science industry.
- TAFE or university qualifications are advantageous but not mandatory.
- Customer-focused approach delivering professional, high-quality service.
- Exceptional attention to detail paired with dedication to quality work.
- Proficiency with computers, especially MS Office applications.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple simultaneous requests accurately.
- Familiarity with laboratory safety procedures and chemical hazards is beneficial but not essential.
- Excellent communication, organizational skills, and time management capabilities.
- Willingness and ability to learn and retain detailed information.
Work Schedule and Employment Details
There are 2 permanent positions available on the afternoon shift, with working hours from 3:00 PM to 11:15 PM, Monday through Friday.
