About the Role

We are representing a dynamic and growing Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO) that has recently established operations in Galway, Ireland. This organization is expanding its footprint across Ireland and the EMEA region. The Sales Director will collaborate closely with teams based in Ireland as well as counterparts in Asia and the United States to deliver innovative solutions to prestigious blue-chip clients. This senior leadership role presents a significant opportunity for career advancement and lucrative earnings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Handle a portfolio comprising 3-5 strategic key accounts, emphasizing top Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and developing connections with other promising market contributors.
  • Meet or exceed annual sales growth and revenue objectives specified in the corporate business plan.
  • Provide accurate quarterly and yearly sales forecasts derived from a well-maintained sales pipeline, keeping forecast deviations within ±15%.
  • Lead and pass 2-3 major supplier qualification audits annually with key clients.
  • Drive technical sales activities to achieve "design-in" approval for at least 1-2 significant new customer programs each year.
  • Develop and execute multi-year strategic account plans to evolve relationships from transactional engagements into valued technical partnerships, with thorough understanding of clients' business, research roadmaps, and competitors.
  • Serve as the technical liaison bridging customer engineering teams and internal R&D groups, articulating complex value propositions and transforming customer needs into actionable product and process specifications.
  • Coordinate cross-functionally across R&D, Quality, Operations, and Supply Chain without direct authority to resolve critical challenges, ensure timely delivery, and align resources to strategic goals.
  • Ensure full compliance with quality and regulatory standards such as FDA Quality System Regulation and ISO 13485 in all proposals, communications, and agreements.
  • Maintain expert knowledge of medical device industry trends and proactively advise customers on new materials, technologies, or process improvements to enhance performance or reduce time to market.

Candidate Requirements

  • Educational background and experience in biomedical engineering, polymer materials, mechanical automation, biology, or related STEM disciplines, including the capability to interpret technical drawings and standards like ISO and ASTM.
  • Comprehensive understanding of product materials science, manufacturing processes, biocompatibility, sterilization methods, and regulatory frameworks including FDA 21 CFR Part 820 and ISO 13485.
  • Strong competency in complex sales processes, demonstrating professionalism in engagement with multiple client departments such as R&D, Purchasing, Quality, and Production.
  • Proven track record in managing long-cycle, multi-phase sales projects from initial design-in to validation, especially with leading medical device Original Equipment Manufacturers.
  • Ability to translate detailed technical product and process information and effectively lead supplier qualification audits to maintain compliance with quality and regulatory standards.
  • Demonstrated success in early client R&D collaboration, becoming a strategic "design-in" partner and offering valued technical insights.
