Research And Development Chemist

Position Overview

We are looking for a meticulous and experienced Chemist to join our Research & Development and Quality Assurance team, specializing in the formulation and manufacturing of Home Care and Personal Care products. The role involves developing, testing, and enhancing products like detergents, cleaning agents, cosmetics, toiletries, and personal hygiene items within the FMCG industry.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and refine new product formulations as well as improve existing ones in Home Care (e.g., detergents, surface cleaners, fabric conditioners) and Personal Care (e.g., shampoos, lotions, oral care) segments.
• Conduct bench-scale trials, stability tests (both accelerated and long-term), and compatibility assessments for raw materials and finished products.
• Carry out physicochemical analyses including pH, viscosity, density, foam height, turbidity, color, and odor testing according to SOPs and quality benchmarks.
• Assess raw materials, surfactants, actives, fragrances, and packaging for suitability and cost efficiency.
• Manage scale-up of formulations from laboratory through pilot to full production stages, collaborating closely with manufacturing units.
• Resolve formulation or production-related issues using customer feedback and process analysis.
• Ensure all formulations meet regulatory standards (local authorities, GHS, REACH, INCI, MSDS/SDS) and internal quality guidelines.
• Maintain detailed and accurate technical documentation including formulation records, batch manufacturing records, and technical data sheets.
• Contribute to cost-saving efforts by proposing alternative materials or process optimizations that maintain quality.
• Perform competitor benchmarking and market research to facilitate new product development.
• Collaborate with marketing, procurement, production, and regulatory departments for successful product launches.
• Assist in establishing and validating test and analytical methods.
• Adhere to laboratory safety, GMP, and quality management systems such as ISO 9001 and ISO 22716.
• Support internal and external audits as required.

Education and Experience

• Possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemistry, Cosmetic Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Have between 3 to 8 years of relevant experience working as a Chemist or Formulation Chemist in the FMCG sector focused on Home Care and/or Personal Care products.
• Demonstrate a successful history of product development and launches.

Technical Skills

• In-depth knowledge of surfactant chemistry, emulsions, formulation science, and raw material functionalities.
• Hands-on proficiency with laboratory instruments such as viscometers, pH meters, spectrophotometers, and stability chambers.
• Familiarity with regulatory requirements including GHS, REACH, local cosmetic and detergent laws, and INCI nomenclature.
• Understanding of manufacturing process workflows and scale-up protocols.
• Awareness of quality standards and certifications like ISO 9001 and ISO 22716/GMP for cosmetics.
• Competency in using MS Office applications (Excel, Word) for documenting and analyzing data.
