R&D Firmware Engineer

Based in Dundalk, County Louth, Ireland, our R&D center specializes in developing advanced measurement, computer imaging, and automation technologies aimed at enhancing the pulp, paper, and fiber industry. We are looking for a Firmware Engineer with a solid grounding in embedded systems design to join our innovative team. You will work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams to develop cutting-edge sensors, measurement platforms, and actuators that will shape the future of industrial processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain scalable and robust firmware for next-generation product lines.
• Design and implement embedded measurement and control algorithms on targeted platforms.
• Create detailed firmware designs, write clean code, and produce technical documentation.
• Collaborate closely with project managers, stakeholders, and multifunctional teams to meet project goals.
• Operate within an Agile/Scrum framework to provide estimates, manage planning, and report progress.
• Diagnose and resolve issues in firmware and related systems during all phases of the product lifecycle.
• Assist manufacturing and customer teams in troubleshooting and resolving technical challenges.
• Research new technologies and contribute innovative ideas to enhance the product portfolio.

Candidate Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related technical discipline with practical firmware development experience.
• Proficient in Embedded firmware programming using C/C++.
• Experience developing low-level board support packages, writing PCB drivers, board bring-up, and working hands-on with hardware schematics and electronics.
• Familiarity with microcontrollers like STM32 and Cortex-M series, including peripherals such as USB, UART, SPI, I2C, timers, and PWM.
• Knowledge in real-time operating systems (RTOS), data acquisition, signal processing, and understanding of industrial communication protocols including Modbus-RTU and RS232/RS485.
• Grasp of networking principles and implementation of TCP/IP and UDP protocols.
• Competent in using development and debugging tools like Visual Studio, IAR Embedded Workbench, and Lauterbach trace tools with strong debugging and test design capabilities.
• Good communication and teamwork skills, enthusiasm for problem-solving, and ongoing personal development. Experience with C# and UML design tools is a plus.
