Overview
An established construction firm in Edenderry is looking for a seasoned Purchasing Manager to oversee procurement and supplier relations. This role is fundamental to managing the acquisition of construction materials, plant, and equipment across several projects, optimizing supplier strategies, improving commercial terms, and securing timely material availability.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate purchasing activities for construction materials, equipment, and plant.
- Identify, assess, and negotiate with suppliers and subcontractors.
- Negotiate costs, contracts, rebates, and commercial terms to benefit project budgets.
- Uncover opportunities for cost savings and enhanced procurement efficiency.
- Maintain current market pricing data to aid project costing and tender bids.
- Collaborate closely with Estimators during tender preparation.
- Cultivate strong supplier relationships and explore alternative suppliers.
- Monitor supplier pricing trends, performance levels, stock availability, and delivery schedules.
- Track purchasing activities along with project expenditures and keep accurate cost records.
- Assist in inventory management and enhance procurement procedures and systems.
- Partner with Finance teams to facilitate monthly reporting on purchases.
- Ensure consistent supply chain operations across multiple project sites.
Qualifications and Skills
- Proven expertise in procurement, purchasing, or buying processes.
- Experience in purchasing construction-related materials, equipment, or comparable material-intensive environments.
- Demonstrated commercial negotiation capabilities to achieve favorable supplier pricing and terms.
- Skilled in sourcing, evaluating, and managing suppliers effectively.
- Thorough knowledge of material pricing, cost management, and supplier delivery lead times.
- Experience overseeing procurement for multiple projects or operational functions.
- Strong relationship management and problem-solving abilities with suppliers.
- Ability to work collaboratively with Estimating, Finance, and operations teams.
- Excellent organizational aptitude to handle competing procurement priorities.
