Job description
Role Overview
We are looking for a Property Assessor to contribute to providing warm, dry, and secure homes throughout New Zealand. In this hands-on role based in Lower Hutt, you will report to the Team Leader - Property Assessment and be responsible for evaluating residential properties, identifying maintenance issues, undertaking minor repair tasks, and ensuring homes comply with health, safety, and building codes. The position requires independent work within your local region, leveraging your construction or maintenance experience to assess property condition, interact effectively with tenants, and provide trustworthy property data for asset management decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect residential properties to assess and report on their condition, focusing on health, safety, and compliance standards.
- Conduct minor maintenance such as servicing heat pumps and completing initial repairs as required.
- Manage your daily schedule autonomously, working directly with tenants to deliver results and uphold excellent customer relations.
- Contribute data to guide strategic decisions on property maintenance and improvements.
Candidate Profile
- You should have hands-on experience in residential construction or maintenance roles, combined with a respectful, customer-friendly demeanor.
- Preferably hold a National Certificate Level 4 in building or design, or have equivalent experience in the building maintenance field.
- A Diploma (Level 6) in Building Control Surveying or recognized qualifications such as Advanced Trade Certificate or NZCB/NZCD are advantageous.
- A minimum of two years’ experience in building construction, maintenance, or inspection is required.
- Possess solid technical knowledge of building methods and relevant legislation.
- Have experience working collaboratively with iwi and Māori organizations at regional or national levels.
- Hold a current, full, and clean New Zealand driver's license.
