About the Role

As a Project Risk Manager based in Cork, Ireland, you will be central to advancing significant infrastructure and construction projects nationwide. Your expertise will be vital in guiding projects through uncertainties, identifying opportunities, and securing successful results that create lasting impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set the strategic course for risk and opportunity management across large-scale programmes by establishing and maintaining rigorous frameworks that promote effective project delivery and oversight.
  • Lead both quantitative and qualitative risk analyses using recognized industry methodologies; proficiency in Quantitative Cost Risk Analysis (QCRA) and Quantitative Schedule Risk Analysis (QSRA) is crucial.
  • Serve as a trusted consultant and subject matter expert, advising on risk management strategies and fostering a proactive, solution-oriented environment throughout projects.
  • Organize and facilitate workshops, reviews, and assessments focused on risk and opportunities to ensure risks are properly identified, assessed, addressed, tracked, and communicated.
  • Develop and improve reporting and governance structures to provide actionable insights for decision-makers and uphold accountability.
  • Promote a risk-aware organizational culture by designing training programs and engagement activities that enhance capabilities and embed best practices.
  • Collaborate closely with senior executives and project teams during programme reviews, resource allocation, and strategic planning to ensure successful delivery of complex project portfolios.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Proven experience in managing risk and opportunity for projects or programmes within infrastructure, construction, engineering, or the built environment sectors.
  • Possession of a recognized risk management certification such as IRM Diploma, PMI-RMP, MoR Practitioner, APM Risk Practitioner, or an equivalent credential.
  • Substantial hands-on experience conducting QCRA and QSRA.
  • Skilled in using leading risk management software like Safran, Oracle PRA, @Risk, ARM, Predict, or Risk Hive.
  • Experience in developing, implementing, and refining risk management frameworks, governance models, and reporting protocols.
  • Ability to confidently engage and influence stakeholders at all levels with clear communication and facilitation skills.
  • Relevant degree in Engineering, Project Management, Risk Management, or related analytical fields.
  • Willingness to travel as necessary and occasionally stay overnight away from home.

Preferred Additional Skills

  • Project management certification such as PMP, PMQ/APM, or PRINCE2.
  • Familiarity with industry standards like ISO 31000, COSO ERM, and APM PRAM.
  • Membership in professional bodies such as IRM, APM, or PMI.
  • Experience in major programme environments, PMOs, project controls, or projects using NEC contracts.
