Position Overview

We are looking for an experienced Project Director – Design based in Doha, Qatar. This leadership position involves overseeing multiple complex civil engineering and infrastructure design projects from concept through detailed design up to Issued for Construction stages. The role demands managing teams of Project Managers, ensuring project excellence in terms of quality, schedule, budget, and resources, while maintaining strong client relations.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and direct multiple design project deliveries end-to-end including Concept, Preliminary, Detailed Design, and IFC stages.
• Advise and support Project Managers in strategic project execution and overcoming delivery challenges.
• Monitor project performance, initiating corrective actions when necessary to ensure governance and compliance.
• Guide Project Managers in managing scope, timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
• Resolve complex technical, commercial, resource, and stakeholder management issues.
• Build and maintain trusted relationships with senior clients and stakeholders; lead client meetings and manage escalations.
• Ensure design coordination across civil, structural, architectural, utilities, and transportation disciplines.
• Incorporate constructability, sustainability, and value engineering into designs and ensure technical and interdisciplinary reviews.
• Develop and oversee project plans, schedules, budgets, and resource allocation for multiple projects.
• Manage resources portfolio-wide, addressing capability gaps and supporting recruitment efforts.
• Ensure deliverables comply with contractual specifications, standards, and client expectations.
• Identify project risks and implement mitigation strategies; escalate issues as needed.
• Supervise budget and cost controls and assist in commercial negotiations.
• Lead, mentor, and motivate multidisciplinary teams fostering accountability, collaboration, and innovation.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a proactive leader combining technical depth with superior project and client management skills. Ability to juggle several high-stake projects, solve complex issues swiftly, and provide clear leadership is essential.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized institution.
• Advanced degrees in Engineering, Project Management or similar fields preferred.
• Professional engineering registration or chartership highly valued; must fulfill Qatar licensing requirements.
• Extensive experience in civil engineering infrastructure design and delivery at senior leadership levels (Project/Program Director, Design Director).
• Proven track record managing multidisciplinary design teams and large portfolios through all design phases.
• Strong background in roads, bridges, utilities, drainage, and other major civil infrastructure projects.
• Keen expertise in design coordination, project controls, risk, and client relationship management.
• Preferred previous experience in Qatar or GCC region with knowledge of local authority requirements and approvals.
