Role Summary

BlueScope Distribution seeks a Programmer to join its programming and estimation team based in Eagle Farm, Queensland. The company provides comprehensive steel and aluminium product solutions, aiding customers across diverse sectors to deliver projects timely and as per specifications. This role involves translating customer requirements and technical drawings into precise machine programs and quotations, working closely with production and sales to uphold standards of safety, quality, innovation, and service excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Generate estimates and quotes for processed goods utilizing shop drawings, bill of materials, and take-offs.
  • Offer expert guidance to customers and internal teams regarding processing capabilities and costs.
  • Manage router processing needs, aiming to utilize all offcuts and batch plates efficiently to reduce waste and enhance profitability.
  • Prepare and promptly follow up on customer quotations.
  • Assist customers proactively by advising on changes to sales orders, including delivery date modifications.
  • Provide customers with timely and accurate order status updates.

Candidate Profile

Success in this role demands exceptional customer service skills, meticulous attention to detail, and strong negotiation and influencing capabilities. Candidates with experience in programming CNC machinery in manufacturing, steel processing, or fabrication environments will be highly valued. However, those with solid customer service backgrounds who have knowledge of aluminium or steel and are eager to learn are also encouraged to apply.

  • Proven experience in machine programming within relevant industrial settings.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD for creating and interpreting technical drawings and part specifications.
  • Familiarity with SigmaNEST or comparable nesting software to optimize materials and production workflows.
  • Hands-on CNC programming experience with equipment such as Plasma, Router, Beamline, Oxy-Fuel, and Tube Laser machines.
  • Ability to read and apply technical and engineering drawings effectively.
  • Working knowledge of SAP or similar ERP systems.
  • Experience with FastCAM QE or similar quotation and estimation software.
  • Strong detail orientation with capacity to handle multiple priorities and meet production deadlines.
