Production Operator

About the Role

This opportunity entails setting up and operating production machinery in line with established standard operating procedures, ensuring manufacturing targets are met safely and products meet quality requirements. The machinery involved includes insert forming machines, wire rollers, and injection moulders.

Primary Responsibilities

• Set up, operate, and closely monitor manufacturing equipment following standard procedures.
• Meet production goals as outlined in schedules while maintaining safety and quality standards.
• Test machined parts during both setup and operation phases to ensure quality.
• Conduct thorough handovers between shifts to maintain continuous productive outputs.
• Accurately complete all required documentation.
• Identify and troubleshoot setup or operational machine issues promptly or escalate to maintenance as needed.
• Perform housekeeping regularly and at shift end, maintaining cleanliness of machines, workbenches, floors, and storage areas.
• Assemble hand tools and tooling components like mandrels and cutters as per standards, ensuring tooling stock levels are adequate and communicated timely.
• Engage proactively in continuous improvement programs, such as 3S, 6S, and Kaizen events, aiming to enhance manufacturing efficiency, reduce costs, improve safety, and uphold quality.
• Support and assist in the on-the-job training of fellow production operators, fostering a multi-skilled team.
• Perform routine maintenance tasks allowed by procedures to ensure machine reliability and product quality, reporting any non-standard maintenance issues timely and ordering consumables as necessary.
• Maintain stock levels diligently, participate in monthly cycle counts, and report shortages of manufactured stock or consumables to supervisors.
• Adhere strictly to safety policies by reporting incidents, near misses, hazards, and utilizing required personal protective equipment.
• Report any environmental incidents promptly, following correct methods for hazardous materials handling and waste disposal.
• Carry out any other duties assigned by the Production Supervisor or appointed delegate aligned with operational requirements.

Qualifications and Experience

A Certificate III in Process Manufacturing is preferred. Candidates should have prior experience in tool manufacturing, metal fabrication, or a related area, combined with mechanical aptitude to adjust both software and mechanical settings on bespoke manufacturing equipment. Proficiency with hand tools like files, vices, hand saws, and pedestal grinders is essential.

Technical Skills and Capabilities

Applicants must be competent in navigating manufacturing computer systems. Strong attention to detail and effective verbal and written communication skills are critical. A proactive stance on personal development and the ability to apply diverse skill sets to specialized manufacturing processes are highly valued.
