Principal / Senior Software Engineer - Backend

About the Role

We seek a proactive Backend Technical Lead to spearhead the architecture, development, scalability, and operational excellence of our Electric Vehicle Charging platform. This pivotal position involves leading backend solution design, ensuring high production stability, and mentoring multiple backend engineers across several services.

You will partner closely with product, engineering, and infrastructure teams to craft resilient, scalable, high-performance systems operating within a cloud-native ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

• Take ownership of backend architecture and design of systems and solutions.
• Deliver backend services end-to-end, ensuring they meet performance and scalability goals.
• Guarantee availability, scalability, security, and responsiveness of backend systems.
• Champion engineering best practices including code quality and design reviews.
• Enhance database efficiency, optimizing performance, indexing, and reducing costs.
• Lead investigation and resolution of production incidents through root cause analysis.
• Architect and implement event-driven, asynchronous backend systems.
• Collaborate with DevOps teams for deployment, monitoring, and system reliability.
• Balance rapid delivery with long-term system maintainability and scalability.
• Mentor engineers and guide technical initiatives across teams.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Extensive experience programming in Go for building production-ready systems.
• Basic to intermediate proficiency in Java is advantageous.
• Strong knowledge in concurrency handling, memory profiling, and optimizing performance.
• Experience designing REST APIs and system-to-system integration.
• Proficient in SQL and working with PostgreSQL or equivalent relational databases.
• Experience with event streaming technologies such as Kafka and realtime protocols like WebSockets.
• Proven expertise troubleshooting production environments.
• Familiarity with cloud-native deployments on Azure or AWS platforms.
• Hands-on experience with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes).
• Understanding of scalable system design, failure modes, and high-traffic system management.
• Track record of mentoring engineers and steering technical leadership efforts.
• Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code tools like Terraform or similar.
• Knowledge of observability solutions such as Datadog, Sentry, or comparable tools.
• Previous exposure to Electric Vehicle charging, mobility services, or IoT platforms is a plus.
• Familiarity with EV charging standards like OCPI and OCPP protocols.
• Insight into distributed systems and device-integrated architectures.
• Experience with payment systems, billing workflows, or platforms processing numerous transactions.
