About Upstack Data

Upstack Data is a Miami-based SaaS company focused on creating marketing automation solutions for Shopify merchants. Their leading product, Signal, replaces inconsistent browser pixels with dependable first-party server-side event tracking for major advertising platforms like Meta and TikTok. The company operates as a lean, globally distributed, AI-driven team with members in multiple time zones.

Role Overview

We are searching for an experienced Senior Software Engineer specializing in backend development to join our team. This position involves full ownership of backend infrastructure, including building serverless APIs, data processing pipelines, and integrations that support our customer identity resolution platform. Collaboration with the CEO will be critical to convert product needs into scalable, reliable backend systems. You will have the autonomy to make technical choices from architecture to deployment while enhancing our backend architecture and engineering standards.

Key Duties

  • Develop and maintain scalable backend services and APIs utilizing Node.js, TypeScript, and AWS Lambda.
  • Drive decisions concerning data schema design, API specifications, and system reliability improvements.
  • Collaborate with leadership to understand requirements and recommend pragmatic backend solutions.
  • Establish and uphold backend coding standards and best practices.
  • Design and enhance data pipelines that efficiently process customer information at scale.
  • Integrate various third-party platforms including Shopify, Meta, Google Ads, Klaviyo, and payment gateways.
  • Conduct code reviews and promote engineering best practices among peers.
  • Optimize application performance, database queries, and manage AWS operational costs.
  • Implement thorough testing protocols to ensure code integrity and maintainability.
  • Monitor backend system metrics proactively to detect and resolve issues.
  • Configure robust error handling, logging, and alerting systems.
  • Support production deployments and participate in troubleshooting activities.
  • Keep current with advances in AWS technologies and modern backend development trends.

Essential Qualifications

  • Over 3 years of hands-on experience developing production-grade applications using Node.js and TypeScript.
  • Proficient with serverless computing architectures, especially AWS Lambda and API Gateway.
  • Skilled in both relational (PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (DynamoDB) database systems.
  • Knowledgeable in data modeling and query tuning techniques.
  • Understanding of event-driven architectures and asynchronous workflows using services like SQS, SNS, or EventBridge.
  • Experienced with designing and consuming RESTful APIs.
  • Familiarity with authentication technologies such as OAuth, JWT, and API key management.
  • Strong background integrating third-party APIs and platforms.
  • Experience using infrastructure-as-code frameworks including Serverless Framework, AWS CDK, or Terraform.
  • Competent working with Git version control, CI/CD pipelines, and modern deployment methodologies.
  • Proven ability to write automated tests and maintain high quality codebases.
  • Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools like CloudWatch or Datadog.
  • Excellent problem-solving aptitude and capability to work autonomously.
  • Availability to overlap 4–5 hours with US Eastern Time zone requirements.
  • Strong communication skills in both written and spoken English.

Preferred Experience

  • Exposure to e-commerce platforms such as Shopify, WooCommerce, or BigCommerce.
  • Familiarity with advertising APIs from Meta Marketing API or Google Ads API.
  • Experience developing data or analytics processing pipelines.
  • Background in identity resolution, customer data platforms, or marketing attribution systems.

Additional Information

  • Work schedule: Full-time with required overlap during US Eastern Time hours until approximately 1 or 2 PM EST.
  • Remote position with no geographic constraints.
  • Benefits include 10 days paid time off plus US holidays, a monthly healthcare stipend, and equipment/connectivity allowance between $50 to $100 as needed.
  • Opportunity for professional growth aligned with company scale-up.
