Role Overview

As a Staff Software Engineer based remotely in Europe, you will have a pivotal part in scaling Vanta's engineering presence, especially across the UK and Ireland. Collaborating closely with product management, design, and engineers, you will guide the development of privacy, AI, and risk management features that enhance Vanta’s offerings. Your contributions will support scalable, performant systems that align with compliance and data governance requirements, ultimately enhancing the customer experience across segments.

Responsibilities

• Lead and define the scope of large-scale technical projects to evolve Vanta’s core products into high-performance, reliable, and customizable systems.
• Hands-on design and development of new product features and infrastructure using tools like TypeScript, React, and Node.js.
• Balance business goals, user needs, and sustainable technical foundations through informed tradeoffs.
• Guide technical directions affecting multiple teams, especially in privacy and AI governance domains.
• Contribute to growing and shaping engineering practices in the UK/Ireland, including involvement in hiring processes and onboarding.
• Foster and uphold a culture of engineering excellence and mentorship, amplifying the skills and impact of the engineering teams.

Qualifications and Experience

• Minimum 10 years of professional software engineering experience.
• Proven leadership of complex projects lasting six months or more, including cross-functional and multi-team coordination.
• Experience setting technical strategies or building shared systems that benefit multiple teams.
• Track record of delivering successful SaaS products to startup and enterprise audiences.
• Previous experience in startup environments or organizations valuing a proactive, action-oriented approach.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and elevate team capabilities.
• Experience at rapidly growing startups and large companies prioritizing agility and decisiveness.

Working Arrangement

This is a remote-first role. Engineers residing in London are expected in the office 2–3 days per week, whereas those elsewhere in the UK or Ireland should be prepared for occasional quarterly visits (~20% of time) to London.
