Principal Geologist - Exploration

About the Role

Join QatarEnergy as a Principal Geologist with a focus on exploration, collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams to provide geological insights for exploration activities across non-operated international assets. This includes assessing new venture opportunities, evaluating prospects and leads, preparing and monitoring drilling operations, and integrating geoscience studies to quality assure the operator's work and inform venture decisions requiring management approval.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage exploration contributions for non-operated joint venture (NOJV) asset management including submissions of Annual Business Plans and Scorecards.
• Maintain and update Venture Risk registers timely, and communicate asset recommendations to senior management covering Technical and Operational Committee Meetings (TCM and OCM).
• Influence operator plans to align with QatarEnergy’s strategic preferences, emphasizing synergies and cost efficiency.
• Represent QatarEnergy in all technical meetings, document decisions with ownership of meeting minutes, foster knowledge sharing, and support continuous improvements in assigned assets and regions.

Candidate Profile and Skills

• Seasoned oil/gas exploration professional with over 15 years of experience as a geological explorer in international oil companies.
• Proven expertise in advancing prospects through maturation, geological risk assessment, and resource volume estimation.
• Strong leadership skills demonstrated by managing multi-disciplinary teams, projects, and joint ventures.
• Motivated explorer who thrives in a collaborative environment, providing clear, actionable recommendations and mentoring junior staff.
• Extensive experience in global oil and natural gas exploration and development across varied sedimentary basins and tectonic settings, including pre- and post-salt basins.
• Proficiency in leading exploration from basin and play analysis to drill-ready well locations.
• Ability to operate effectively in non-operated ventures, employing excellent communication skills to maintain credibility and influence joint venture partners.
• Strong network and experience focused on the Americas portfolio throughout most of career.
• Background working with multiple international oil companies in non-operated venture roles.
• Technical software skills including Petrel Suite, GeoX, and ArcGIS are essential; PaleoScan and Basin Modelling software knowledge preferred.

Educational Qualifications

A Master of Science degree in a core geoscience discipline is required.
