Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Principal Backend Software Engineer to join our Transaction Tribe. This tribe is dedicated to developing products that focus on acquiring, retaining, and expanding our customer base. In this role, you will lead the creation of backend systems that are scalable, robust, and designed for extensibility.

Your work will greatly influence the backend infrastructure that supports our products, and you will be a key mentor, guiding fellow engineers to grow their skills. Acting as a role model, you will introduce transformative changes and motivate teams to achieve challenging goals, driving innovation for impactful results.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead backend architecture design and implementation, ensuring systems are scalable, maintainable, and aligned with the Transaction Tribe’s objectives.
• Create reusable services, APIs, and shared modules that can be utilized across multiple products, setting best practices for backend component development.
• Collaborate with product, UX, and frontend teams to align backend capabilities with current and future business needs to facilitate growth initiatives.
• Manage system performance by monitoring, tuning, and optimizing backend resources to guarantee high availability and low latency.
• Address system-wide technical issues involving databases, caching mechanisms, message queues, and other critical backend elements.
• Ensure all backend systems comply with security standards and regulations, incorporating data protection and compliance features effectively.
• Provide leadership and mentorship to senior and mid-level engineers, fostering a culture of continuous technical improvement and collaboration.
• Keep abreast of emerging backend technologies, cloud services, and architectural patterns, spearheading innovation to enhance scalability and reliability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent academic or practical experience.
• Over 10 years of experience in backend software engineering, with expertise in scalable, distributed systems, and service-oriented design.
• Strong proficiency in backend programming languages and frameworks, preferably Go, and deep knowledge of system design, APIs, and microservices architecture.
• Extensive experience operating high-performance backend services, including databases, caching layers, messaging systems, and event-driven architectures.
• Skills in building modular, reusable, and maintainable backend components for large-scale applications.
• Hands-on experience with continuous integration and deployment pipelines, automated testing, and backend service workflows.
• Proven leadership abilities including technical direction, fostering best practices, and facilitating cross-functional teamwork.
• Successful track record in aligning engineering efforts with organizational goals balancing speed, quality, and impact.
• Expertise in performance tuning, debugging, concurrency, distributed computing, database optimization, and reliability engineering.
