POS & PSD Maintenance Technician

Job Overview

The role involves performing various preventive and corrective maintenance tasks to ensure smooth functioning of third rail and track systems. Adherence to approved maintenance plans and strict safety rules is essential.

Key Responsibilities

• Execute all levels of maintenance activities including preventative and corrective actions, following established maintenance procedures and safety standards.
• Log all completed maintenance work accurately in the Maintenance Management System.
• Conduct routine inspections, unscheduled maintenance, surface defect checks, replacement of consumables, minor repairs, and technical cleaning on third rail and track systems.
• Monitor surrounding environment to detect and report any maintenance issues not previously identified.
• Work collaboratively with operations team members and assist supervisors with asset configuration changes.
• Use only certified and calibrated maintenance tools and equipment in good condition.
• Fulfill shift and emergency duties as required.
• Keep precise maintenance records related to rail infrastructure, tools, and work activities via computerized maintenance management systems.
• Operate automotive equipment to reach work sites when necessary.
• Carry out additional duties as directed by Team Leader or Supervisor.

Safety Critical Duties

• Manage safe system of work adhering to strict maintenance schedules.
• Comply with Permit to Work processes.
• Operate points locally and communicate effectively with signalers, line controllers, electrical control operators, and personnel responsible for track possessions or rail vehicle movements.
• Perform safety critical communications and rail vehicle movement control.
• Act as Pilotman during single line operations and emergencies.
• Verify goods loading safety and manage installation, maintenance, and inspection of track components and permanent way structures.
• Operate and calibrate specialized track maintenance machinery and vehicles, including rail, road/rail, road wheeled or tracked vehicles.
• Protect personnel working on or near tracks and in possessions.

Qualifications & Experience

• Technical Diploma or equivalent qualification in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Railway Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Between 2 to 5 years of practical experience in track maintenance, rail systems, or comparable technical positions.
• Demonstrated expertise in maintaining third rail and track systems or railway infrastructure.
