Job description

Role Overview

This position involves completing the pharmacy accuracy checking process following a pharmacist's clinical review. When required, you may also undertake dispensing duties. You will actively engage with customers to provide helpful information on symptoms, ailments, and products, ensuring you meet their needs with the most suitable advice and sales. Promoting pharmacy services and assisting with dispensing procedures are integral tasks as well.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform accurate checking of dispensed prescriptions following established procedures.
  • Dispense medicines if the skill mix within the pharmacy does not support an accuracy checking role.
  • Engage customers proactively, offering clear explanations and advice about products and services.
  • Advise customers about the variety of pharmacy services available.
  • Respond confidently to clinical and legal queries from healthcare professionals within your competence.
  • Address customer inquiries related to prescriptions and relay complaints to pharmacists when necessary.
  • Maintain cleanliness and order in dispensary and consulting rooms.
  • Complete prescription administration accurately and on time, demonstrating attention to detail.
  • Support promotional and company initiatives within the pharmacy team.
  • Aim to meet departmental targets as set by the Pharmacy Manager.
  • Adhere strictly to procedures to protect profits and ensure legal and safe trading.
  • Assist pharmacy management with supervising and developing team members through coaching and feedback.
  • Stay current with legal and professional pharmacy developments.
  • Register with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) as an Accuracy Checking Technician and maintain annual registration and continuing professional development.

Candidate Requirements

  • Qualification as a pharmacy technician or accuracy checking technician (NVQ or equivalent).
  • Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council as a Pharmacy Technician or Accuracy Checking Technician.
  • Completion of a recognized training course for Accuracy Checking or Pharmacy Technician.
  • Evidence of meeting annual Continuing Professional Development obligations.

Working Hours and Availability

The role requires availability Tuesday to Friday from 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Contracted hours will be scheduled within these times with at least three weeks’ notice. Flexible working arrangements close to these hours are welcome.

  • Starting hourly pay at £15.70; higher rates apply for stores inside the M25 with additional location-based payments.
