Role Overview

As a Pet Groomer, you will provide expert grooming services including bathing, drying, styling, nail trimming, and other care to ensure pets look and feel their best. Your role involves maintaining pet safety, comfort, and delivering excellent customer service to pet parents.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform professional grooming services such as bathing, drying, brushing, haircuts, styling, nail and ear care following breed standards and company policies.
• Utilize and maintain grooming tools like clippers, blades, shears, brushes, and dryers.
• Prioritize the safety and comfort of animals, monitoring them for signs of stress or health issues and reporting concerns promptly.
• Assess each pet's individual needs based on coat type, skin condition, and temperament.
• Engage effectively with pet parents by answering inquiries, providing grooming advice, and ensuring high customer satisfaction.
• Educate pet parents about grooming maintenance and home care practices and products.
• Keep the grooming area clean and sanitary, performing daily cleaning and maintenance tasks in line with Petco hygiene standards.
• Adhere strictly to grooming policies and quality standards to maintain salon excellence.
• Assist in training or supervising junior groomers when needed.

Qualifications and Experience

• Completion of Petco's Pet Stylist Apprentice program or equivalent professional grooming experience or technical training.
• High school diploma or GED preferred but not mandatory.
• Ability to exercise independent judgment and troubleshoot in grooming practices with some guidance.
• Focus on productivity and ownership of grooming responsibilities.
• Strong attention to detail ensuring grooming is performed accurately and to industry standards.
• Passionate about animals and committed to a career in pet grooming.
• Thorough knowledge of dog breeds, grooming requirements, common health issues, and behaviors.
• Expertise in breed-specific cuts and grooming techniques.
• Effective communication skills for interacting with pet parents and team members.
• Ability to handle pets of varying sizes and temperaments with care.
• Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays per salon needs.

Work Environment

The position requires working indoors primarily in the grooming salon, standing for extended periods, bending, kneeling, and lifting up to 30 pounds. Occasional use of ladders and cleaning equipment is required. The environment can be noisy and wet with frequent interaction with pets and customers.

Compensation and Benefits

Hourly wage ranges from $15.00 to $23.00, adjusted as per state regulations and experience.
