Role Summary

As a Pet Stylist at Petco, you will deliver expert grooming services including bathing, drying, brushing, haircuts, styling, nail trimming, ear and gland cleaning. Your focus will be on the safety, comfort, and wellbeing of each pet, ensuring high levels of satisfaction for pet parents. Additional duties may be assigned by leadership to support salon operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide professional grooming services such as bathing, drying, cutting, styling, nail trims, ear and gland cleaning according to pet parent instructions and breed standards.
• Operate and maintain grooming equipment including clippers, blades, shears, brushes, and dryers.
• Ensure animal safety and comfort, observing pets for distress or health issues and promptly reporting concerns to owners and management.
• Assess individual pet needs based on coat type, skin condition, and temperament.
• Engage professionally with pet parents, delivering excellent customer service, answering questions, and offering personalized grooming advice and product recommendations.
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation in the grooming salon and equipment, adhering to hygiene policies and performing scheduled cleaning tasks.
• Apply knowledge of Petco grooming policies and standards to uphold safety, quality, and consistency.
• Support and train entry-level groomers in the absence of leadership.

Qualifications and Experience

• Completion of Petco's Pet Stylist Apprentice program or equivalent professional grooming experience or technical training.
• High school diploma or GED preferred but not mandatory.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment and problem-solving skills in grooming, with guidance when needed.
• Detail-oriented with commitment to delivering high-quality grooming services.
• Passion for animals and dedication to advancing a grooming career.
• Expertise in breed-specific grooming styles, health considerations, and animal behavior.
• Strong communication skills for interaction with clients and colleagues.
• Capability to handle pets of various sizes and temperaments with care.
• Flexible availability including weekends, evenings, and holidays as per salon schedule.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

This role primarily operates indoors within the grooming salon. It involves physical activities such as standing for extended periods, bending, kneeling, lifting up to 30 pounds, and occasional use of ladders or tools for maintenance tasks. The environment may be noisy and wet, with frequent interaction with pets and team members.
