About British American Tobacco and the Role
British American Tobacco (BAT) is rapidly transitioning into a global, multi-category organization committed to "Building a Smokeless World". Positioned in Southampton, UK, this full-time role runs until October 2027 and focuses on ensuring accurate and timely payroll management that supports this ambitious vision.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain precise and prompt payroll processing, including manual pay calculations, safeguarding data accuracy within payroll systems, and addressing errors or payslip inconsistencies.
- Ensure strict adherence to HMRC reporting, statutory requirements, GDPR, internal policies, and SOx audit controls, while keeping current with evolving payroll legislation.
- Generate and deliver payroll-related reports and information to management, Global Business Services, and external parties; support payroll approvals and handle payroll inquiries.
- Oversee specialized payroll areas such as Non-Executive Director and foreign currency payroll processing, benefits reporting, and provide support to payroll leadership and global teams.
- Assist in payroll system operations including troubleshooting, upgrades, maintenance, disaster recovery, and system testing affecting payroll functions.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Demonstrated expertise in payroll processing, including calculations and relevant legislative frameworks; additional knowledge of pension and share schemes is beneficial.
- Strong analytical abilities, adept at problem-solving and decision-making, complemented by excellent numerical and written communication skills.
- Proficient interpersonal and customer service capabilities, capable of explaining complex payroll matters and resolving employee queries effectively.
- Excellent organization and time management skills to juggle competing priorities and meet deadlines, adaptable in busy periods.
- Advanced competency in Microsoft Office and experience with payroll software, coupled with a proactive stance on enhancing processes and systems.
- Professional qualification in payroll or finance is required.
