About the Role

The Queensland Parliamentary Service is hiring a Payroll Officer to ensure accurate and timely payroll and personnel administration services. This position requires managing payroll transactions, maintaining employee records, providing remuneration advice, and supporting improvements in payroll processes. The ideal candidate demonstrates meticulous attention to detail, excellent customer service skills, and thrives in a dynamic workplace.

Key Objectives

  • Support the accurate, prompt delivery of payroll and personnel administrative services.
  • Manage payroll transactions and maintain employee records within the Parliamentary Service.
  • Participate in initiatives aimed at enhancing payroll and administrative processes.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily payroll functions ensuring correct and on-time payroll for employees, electorate staff, and the Office of the Governor.
  • Handle payroll transactions such as appointments, record updates, separations, casual timesheets, overtime, and higher duties compensation.
  • Audit and process electorate office casual timesheets, ensuring adherence to entitlement limits.
  • Prepare relevant salary and allowance documentation for Legislative Assembly Members per legislation and policies.
  • Offer timely and accurate advice on remuneration and entitlements to Members, managers, and employees.
  • Support payroll-related projects to improve systems, processes, and service quality.
  • Foster a collaborative team environment and assist colleagues as needed.

Candidate Profile

  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service abilities to engage diverse stakeholders effectively.
  • Experience using payroll management systems, preferably Aurion or similar platforms, to process payroll transactions.
  • Strong capacity to interpret and apply payroll rules, policies, and entitlements, or the ability to quickly learn these.
  • High level of accuracy and commitment to confidentiality.
  • Ability to prioritize competing tasks, work under tight deadlines, and perform well in a fast-paced setting.
  • Proactive attitude towards problem-solving and driving continuous improvements.
