Role Overview

The Payroll Officer will be responsible for the precise and timely processing of payroll on either a weekly or fortnightly schedule for designated business units. This role ensures full compliance with legal standards, company policies, and relevant awards. Key duties include maintaining accurate employee and payroll records, managing deductions and contributions, resolving payroll inquiries, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives under the guidance of Payroll leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute payroll processes accurately and punctually in line with applicable awards, employment contracts, and legislation.
  • Manage deductions, contributions, and benefits, including both company and industry superannuation arrangements.
  • Regularly update and maintain employee and payroll information following set procedures.
  • Respond promptly and courteously to payroll questions and concerns.
  • Work closely with Payroll Lead to handle escalated issues and support payroll service delivery through platforms like the Zendesk payroll portal.
  • Assist in preparing payroll data for forecasting, analytics, and reporting to satisfy business needs.
  • Establish and nurture positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support efficient payroll operations.
  • Participate in projects and ongoing improvements related to payroll processes as directed.
  • Maintain accountability for completing assigned tasks, ensuring adherence to established timelines and quality standards.
  • Help monitor payroll accuracy and resolve discrepancies in collaboration with Payroll Lead to uphold compliance and data integrity.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years experience processing payroll in environments with high volume or multiple sites.
  • Thorough understanding of Modern Awards and payroll legislation, capable of accurately interpreting employment conditions.
  • Experience with payroll software such as ADP Payforce (preferred), Time2Work, or comparable systems.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, with skills in data analysis and generating reports.
  • Strong attention to detail ensuring the accuracy of employee records and payroll transactions.
  • Effective communication skills enabling professional and clear resolution of payroll inquiries.
