Overview
We are seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to lead payroll operations at a respected organisation in Canberra. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on professional who will guide a small team, ensuring payroll is accurate, compliant, and delivered on time. You will play a significant role in enhancing employee experience and operational success through effective leadership and continuous process improvements.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and mentor a payroll team, fostering development and performance.
- Oversee all payroll processing activities and related reconciliations.
- Ensure compliance with payroll tax, superannuation, and statutory obligations.
- Interpret employment contracts and industrial instruments to apply correct payroll rules.
- Handle complex payroll inquiries and escalation cases.
- Maintain governance standards and payroll compliance.
- Build collaborative relationships with finance, people and culture, and operations teams.
- Initiate and implement process improvements to optimize payroll functions and employee satisfaction.
Requirements
- Proven leadership experience in payroll management or senior payroll roles.
- In-depth knowledge of Australian payroll legislation, awards, and compliance requirements.
- Experience leading payroll teams within complex organisational settings.
- Strong understanding of employment conditions and payroll governance frameworks.
